The Greatest Thing

The ringing in my ears was a clanging cymbal
Just the words I had heard too many times
And I’d seen the mountains fall into the ocean
But that just left me here gasping for life

So I turned to the prophet who fathomed all the mysteries
Who never lacked in faith or charity
He spoke in many tongues of men and angels
But he never said anything to me

I was doing what you told me to
You never asked me for my point of view
But I know about the greatest thing and that’s truth to me

Now this window’s so cloudy
And I can’t tell what I see,
Maybe shrouded in synthetic mystery
Of one too many prayers in front of one too many temples
You’re hiding all the truth that even you can’t see

I was doing what you told me to
You never asked me for my point of view
But I know about the greatest thing and that’s truth to me
